- Complete an application for admission to one of NJ's 19 community colleges and enroll in its Associate in Applied Science in Technical Studies degree program (link for technical studies).
- Complete the NJ PLACE Evaluation of Transfer Credits Form that requests the US Department of Labor's Office of Apprenticeship to provide a letter verifying the apprentice's completion of apprenticeship directly to the community college listed on the transfer credit form.
- Complete the community college request for transfer credit evaluation and pay the evaluation fee, if applicable.

For NJ PLACE students who have not yet completed their apprenticeship training, they are still eligible to participate in NJ PLACE.
- Students should obtain verification of participation in an NJ PLACE registered apprenticeship from their training director and bring the verification letter to their local community college contact. See the Community College Contacts page.
- No credit will be listed on a student's transcript until they have completed their apprenticeship unless otherwise determined by each institution's policies.
- Students may complete other course requirements for the AAS in Technical Studies degree while simultaneously completing their registered apprenticeship training.
- Once students have completed their registered NJ PLACE apprenticeship training, they should complete the Evaluation of Transfer Credits Form and mail to the US Department of Labor in order for your transcript to be credited according to each institution's policies.
